The who, what, and why
So R&B launched a blog! But why?
To get better at what we do! R&B is Pittsburgh’s only early music presenter, and has been for almost 50 years, but that doesn’t mean our work is done!
R&B was founded in 1968 by a group of music lovers in Pittsburgh. The world was experiencing an early music renaissance (forgive the pun) but many performers weren’t coming to Pittsburgh on their tours. The Renaissance & Baroque Society of Pittsburgh sought to change that.
50 years later, some things have changed, but the important things are still the same. We have a different name (no more Society), different staff, different board of directors, different office, but our goal has always been the same – to bring the best of early music to Pittsburgh.
We’ve heard that some of our audience members want to know more about early music, others want pre-concert lectures, and others want to know more about the musicians on stage. In this blog, you can do all of those things, but on your own time.
R&B doesn’t want to add to the noise of the internet, but wants to provide an interesting way for you to learn more about the music and musicians that grace our stages. So, what do you want to know?
For now, the plan includes a couple posts a month. We’ll interview musicians, we’ll talk about the programs coming up, and we’ll learn about musical elements that will enhance your experience at the concert hall. What did we miss? What do you want to learn? This blog is about making R&B (even more) fun for you!
