The English, like their language, have always exhibited a certain eccentricity. The many influences upon their culture, art, and base make-up from so many different directions have produced a colorful and sometimes enigmatic people. But there remains something particularly indigenous. Perhaps in their quirky and sometimes of-the-wall sense of humour. Hogarth, Benny Hill, Monty Python, and Rowan Atkinson are fine examples. English music shares these kooky attributes. The music in this programme is truly “clogg’d” with Englishness. Rich, sometimes over-complex, quirky, naughty, obtuse, but always sensitive and deeply felt. Music fitting for the celebration and commiseration of an ex-pat.
